Just in time for the 2nd Anniversary of AEW Dynamite, I wanted to give you my dream AEW roster. I decided to borrow the Verne Gagne idea of the "Great 8", where a promotion (or in Gagne's case, a territory) has 8 top guys that the company is built around. I also have my picks for the "New Batch," who are the ones you build up into the next stars.
As well as, a roster of tag teams and a women's roster. Obviously there a several wrestlers that had to be cut and trust me, it was very hard to decide who got picked but here it is: My AEW Roster Top 8:
-Kenny Omega with Don Callis (The Champion)
-Adam Cole -Bryan Danielson -CM Punk -Cody Rhodes with Brandi Rhodes -"Hangman" Adam Page -Malakai Black -Miro -Chris Jericho comes in for big shows and PPVs only Pretty cut and dry why I picked these 8 over the rest of the roster. Each person is a great worker and already over with the AEW crowd as either a babyface or heel. Any combination of these 8 would be a great match. I ALMOST put Hangman in the Next 8 but honestly he is over enough with the AEW fans and good enough to be a top guy now. Jericho I added in as a "special attraction", which is what he should be now. No TV every week. Just big shows and PPVs to make it feel special. The New Batch: -Brian Pillman Jr. -Darby Allin -Jungle Boy -MJF -Powerhouse Hobbs -Ricky Starks -Sammy Guevara -Wardlow In the undercard, we have the Next Top 8. Obviously need to have the newly dubbed "4 Pillars of AEW" along with Hobbs, Starks, Pillman Jr. and Wardlow, who are all being positioned in AEW now to be future stars. The 8 After That: -Anthony Ogogo -Brock Anderson -Daniel Garcia -Dante Martin -John Silver -Lee Johnson -Lee Moriarty This is a special inclusion I made. AEW has a lot of young talent that are pretty much training from scratch or getting them very early in their careers. These are 7 of the people that I would keep under contract or at least an eye and try to bring them in after they have more experience to be my next crop of The Next Top 8. 8 Tag Teams: -The Young Bucks -The Lucha Brothers with Alex Abrahantes -FTR with Tully Blanchard -Santana and Ortiz -SCU (Daniels and Kazarian) -Men of the Year (Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page) -2.0 -Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston AEW has a lot of great teams but several I broke up to have them be singles wrestlers ie Jungle Boy, Brian Pillman Jr. and Team Taz. However, we still have a great roster of talent for the tag division. I would want the team of Daniels and Kazarian to be back together so they could be a veteran team and help elevate some of the other teams. Another bold move would be to keep Moxley and Kingston as a team. While both men are fantastic singles wrestlers, I think having fun with them as a team would be fantastic and play up them being the wild brawlers of AEW. Men of the Year and 2.0 would my newer teams that I build up while Bucks, Lucha Brothers, FTR and Santana and Ortiz are my top 4 teams that can be switched in and out as the faces of the division. The New Batch: -The Acclaimed -Private Party I love both these teams and would want to keep an eye on them and see if they improve and can put in as a Top 8 team next year or some time later. Top 8 Women: -Britt Baker w/ Rebel (The Champion) -Hikaru Shida -Jade Cargill -Jamie Hayter -Kris Statlander -Ruby Soho -Serena Deeb -Thunder Rosa I had a lot of issues with the women division because I am only pushing 8 of them and there is some great potential here. Baker, Ruby, Deeb and Rosa were must haves. I decided to only grab Shida as she is the only of the Japanese talent that can cut an English promo and has good chemistry with everyone. The rest of the Joshi women would be special attractions here and there. Jade is a future star and needs to be locked down now and allowed to grow. Same with Jamie and Statlander to round out my Top 8. Both are great talents and can put in and out at the top of the division as needed. The New Batch: -Anna Jay -Leyla Hirsch -Red Velvet -Tay Conti Like the men, these are the women that I would want to keep an eye on and could very easily use next year. Anna and Leyla were the hardest to cut from the Top 8 because I think both are amazing but Anna is still very young and Leyla needs to improve a little before I would push her as a top star.
