Top Matches I Watched in May 2024

By Alex Kalil

Another really great month from wrestling AEW continues to be some of my favorite TV with a great Double or Nothing. WWE gave us some fun PPVs and a really nice King and Queen of the Ring. Plus NJPW, Dragon Gate, NOAH, TNA and even some Joshi this month!

IWGP Women's Championship Match: Mayu Iwatani (c) vs. Sareee at Stardom All-Star Grand Queendom 2024: A great back and forth match between these two women. Mayu starts off looking in control with her speed before a dive to the outside misses. Sareee takes over with some nice aggression and grounds Mayu with some brutal looking submissions. Story becomes Mayu having to dig deep and get more furious with her offense to match Sareee, which she does brilliantly. Vicious and stiff strikes from both women along with a lot of big bombs and suplexes that drop their opponents right on their heads! Sareee gets frustrated at Mayu's determination to kick out and keep fighting back, leading to some nasty headbutts. Mayu stays in this and just bombards Sareee with offense before a Two Step Dragon Suplex finally gets the win. Some really nice stuff all match and nicely puts over Mayu having to match Sareee all match to beat her. ****1/4

WWE Undisputed Championship Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. AJ Styles at WWE Backlash 2024: A really good and heated back and forth match. Things start off with both men trying to mat wrestle and show off their amentur skills. Match progresses into the more traditional back and forth style of match. Both men start going for bigger and bigger offensive moves as things go on with neither having a clear advantage. Nice touch with both pulling out some special moves for this match like Cody with a Kimura and AJ with a Burning Hammer. In the end, Cody hits a top rope Cody Cutter and a Cross Rhodes to get the win. Very fun match with an insanely hot crowd for everything they did. ****

NJPW World Television Championship Match: Zack Sabre Jr. (c) vs. Jeff Cobb at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2024 Night 1: A good, fast paced match. Right at the bell, these two start off with some mat-based wrestling back and forth with Sabre being the faster man and Cobb being the more powerful one. Cobb is able to toss Sabre around early on and Sabre hurts his ribs. Sabre has to work the match hurt and tries to find openings to work over Cobb but all Cobb has to do is go to the ribs and throw Sabre around to take back over. Sabre's quick strikes and submission work buys him some time and is even able to nicely counters out of the Tour of the Islands into a series of submissions. Cobb finally is able to power Sabre right up and out of a Triangle and hits Tour of the Island for the win. Good match with Cobb hurting Sabre early on and using that weakness to work him over and take Sabre out of the wheelhouse to get the win. ****

NEVER Openweight Championship Match: Shingo Takagi (c) vs. Gabe Kidd at NJPW Wrestling Dontaku 2024 Night 2: A hard hitting and stiff fight between these two! Right at the bell, these two go right at it with big strikes. Match spills to the floor and Kidd takes over running Shingo into the guardrails and nailing him with a steel chair. Back in the ring, the match is nothing but big strikes, headbutts, suplexes and big bombs! Awesome exchanges like Kidd countering out of a Last of the Dragon into a piledriver only for Shingo to stay on his feet long enough to nail a Sliding D! So good! Lots of great near-falls before Shingo wins an exchange of Lariats and hits a Takagi Driver '98 dropping Kidd on his head! The Last of the Dragon is finally enough to get the win. What a match between these two just going out here and giving it everything they had! ****1/4

Five Way Hair vs. Mask Steel Cage Survival Match: Hyo vs. JACKY "FUNKY" KAMEI vs. Jason Lee vs. Kzy vs. Shun Skywalker at Dragon Gate Dead or Alive 2024: A really exciting and story driven match. The babyfaces gang up on the heels early on to give them their comeuppances. When the faces start trying to escape, the heels are able to sneak attack them and take over with the help of Z-Brats on the outside. Hyo makes it to the top of the cage and looks to escape but comes back to save JACKY from the heels like he promised to do. Awesome spot with Hyo using a rope as a pulley system to lift JACKY up and allow him to escape the cage. Kzy tries to make it out next; only for Skywalker to stop him and literally climb over him to grab the flag and escape. Nice symbolism there. Kzy tries to escape again but is again stopped by Skywalker on the outside of the cage. Strong Machine J runs out and looks to turn on Kzy! NO! SMJ knocks Skywalker off the cage and helps Kzy escape! Down to Hyo and Jason as we get some nice back and forth action. Every time Hyo tries to make it out, Z-Brats are there to stop him. ISHIN dumps a bag of powder over Hyo's head and blinds him, allowing Jason to hit a pair of MaxiMuM Drivers and escape  the cage, all while JACKY screams for his friend who saved him. Hyo came into the match to help JACKY but ended up losing his hair for his selflessness. Match was a little long but the story-telling made up for it. ****

GHC Heavyweight Championship Match: El Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. (c) vs. Kaito Kiyomiya at Pro Wrestling NOAH Wrestle Magic 2024: A really great back and forth match. Both men start off with some quick exchanges early on before Kaito goes to the knee of Wagner to try and slow him down. Wagner responds by laying into Kaito with his power and starts to work him over. We get an especially brutal spot with Wagner hitting a dive on Kaito, who gets all but bent over the guardrail! Ouch! Kaito does a nice job of staying alive and fighting back to stay in the match before going after the knee of Wagner again and locking in the Figure Four for a nice false finish. We get an exciting finishing stretch with both men going for their best shots before Kaito hits a Shining Wizard off the top rope! Shining Wizard to the back of the head before one last Shining Wizard ends things. Kaito is the champion again! A really great match that showcased both men well. Very exciting finish with both looking like they could pull off the win. ****1/4

No Disqualification Match for the AEW TNT Championship: Adam Copeland (c) vs. Brody King at AEW Dynamite 5/8/24: A fun No Disqualification match. Copeland starts off trying to work over Brody with some standard wrestling but quickly is outmatched by Brody's size and power. Brody goes to work on the well known injured neck of Copeland and just tosses him around in and out of the ring. Copeland is able to find an opening and hits a DDT on a chair to bust open Brody and put the two on somewhat even footing. Nice story to the match with Copeland fighting through his hurt neck and Brody trying to not lose too much blood. Some nice big offense and near-falls from both men before Copeland spears Brody off the apron through a table! Holy shit! One more Spear in the ring and Copeland retains. A good match with Copeland having to use the No DQ stipulation to wound the big man and find a way to beat him. Nice way to protect Brody even in defeat. ****

King of the Ring 2024 First Round Match: Ricochet vs. Ilja Dragunov at WWE Raw 5/6/24: A good back and forth match between the high flying Ricochet and the hard hitting Ilja. Match starts off quick with Ricochet looking to use his quickness, only to get cut off by Ilja's stiff strikes. A really nice back and forth takes place as the two work their roles perfectly and pull off some incredible exchanges and near-falls. Love both men throwing their whole bodies into their offense and just how impactful everything looks. Ricochet picks up the pace and hits some nice fast offense but goes for a springboard moonsault, only for Ilja to punch him out the sky! H Bomb by Ilja and he goes for the Torpedo Moscow. Recoil by Ricochet! Ricochet goes to the top but Ilja cuts him off and hits a superplex. Another H Bomb and Ilja gets the win. Great match and one that showcased the toughness of Ilja nicely. ****

King of the Ring 2024 First Round Match: Sheamus vs. Gunther at WWE Raw 5/6/24: A hard hitting fight between these two. Right at the bell, the two start going at it with heavy shots. Love the little touch of Gunther grabbing holds on Sheamus when Sheamus starts to fire up too much to slow things down a touch. The two just go at it like two big bulls before Sheamus goes for the Brogue Kick but Gunther is able to dodge it and ties Sheamus' leg in the ropes. Ludwig Kaiser dropkicks Sheamus' leg in the ropes behind the referee's back! From there, the match changes from a Hoss match to Sheamus fighting on one good leg as Gunther works him over for some great heat. Love the little ways Gunther gets heat on Sheamus like ripping off his knee pad and even chopping the knee. What an asshole! Sheamus is able to fight back and goes for the Brogue Kick again but his knee gives out, allowing Gunther to lock him in a Half Crab. Sheamus makes it to the ropes and Gunther goes for the top, only to be cut off by Sheamus. Celtic Cross by Sheamus only gets 2! Sheamus catches Gunther with a knee and hits the Brogue Kick! Slow cover and Gunther kicks out! Gunther spins Sheamus from the kick out and into the Half Crab again! Sheamus fights to the ropes but can't make it this time and has to tap. What a match! Starts off as a hard hitting fight before we get some brilliant selling and an awesome comeback by Sheamus, only to be cut off and beaten by Gunther. Great stuff! ****1/4

TNA X-Division Championship Match: Mustafa Ali (c) vs. Jake Something at TNA Rebellion 2024: A really good power vs. speed match. Something is able to run through Ali early on and easily take control of the match. Awesome spot with Ali catching Something sliding under the ropes and hitting a DDT on the floor before going to work on the neck to take over. Something is able to rally after countering a hurricanrana into a powerbomb. Awesome looking spot. We get some nice back and forth before Ali uses his henchmen to hold Something down and hits a 450 for a big near-fall. Something is able to hit Into The Void but Ali gets his foot on the rope. Something tries to follow-up but Ali pokes him in the eyes and steals the win with a roll-up. Nice storytelling with Ali being easily outmatched by Something's size, power and surprising agility and having to find creative and desperate ways to get the win. ****

Best of the Super Junior 31 Block B Match: KUSHIDA vs. Hiromu Takahashi at NJPW Best of the Super Junior 31 Night 1: A good battle between these former rivals. Some good exchanges early on before KUSHIDA goes right to work on Hiromu's arm. Hiromu responds back by going for his trademark hard hitting offense as we get some good back and forth action. Love the intensity these two bring to this match; both wasting no time and going right for the big blows and trying to start off the tournament with a win. KUSHIDA is able to counter a Time Bomb and locks in the Hoverboard Lock. Hiromu tries to fight out of it but KUSHIDA just twists the hold in deeper and gets the tap out win. Good stuff. ****

AEW TNT Championship Match: Adam Copeland (c) vs. Kyle O'Reilly at AEW Collision 5/11/24: A really great old school style wrestling match. Both men start off working for holds and submissions with Kyle having the clear advantage on the mat. Kyle looks for the armbar all match and keeps going back to the arm a lot early on while Copeland is able to find an opening to work on Kyle's midsection and soften him up for the Spear. Nice clever limb work and selling by both men here. Some great back and forth counters and exchanges from both men with it looking like Kyle's arm work and faster style will outlast Copeland. A straight punch to the ribs drops Kyle, who looks badly hurt. Copeland goes for the Spear but Kyle locks in a Guillotine Choke! Excellent counter! Copeland fights to escape and hits the Impaler on Kyle. Spear by Copeland finally ends things. Super fun match. Love both men working a clean match with smart strategies to try and win. ****

No Rope Last Man Standing Match for the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship: Eddie Kingston (c) vs. Gabe Kidd at NJPW STRONG Resurgence 2024: A really good heated fight! Both men come out swinging for the fences right away with big strikes. Kingston rocks Gabe with a Backfist early and Gabe responds by throwing a chair into Kingston's face! Nice heat by Gabe as he uses the exposed turnbuckles to stab at Kingston's eyes and bust him open. Kingston fires back on Gabe and busts him open right back and we get a wild and bloody brawl from here. Chains, chairs and ladders all come into play as these two just try to keep hurting the other, even breaking the count at times just to inflict more punishment. Kingston handcuffs himself to Gabe and yells at him to fight him as the two exchange shots. Low blow by Gabe and a Brainbuster off the apron through a table! Kingston clips his legs on the guardrail on his way down too! Jesus! Gabe stands at 9 and stays up long enough for Kignston to be counted out! Brutal match from these two. Wish they made it more of a fight at times and didn't use all the weapons but still a really good match. ****

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Shota Umino at NJPW STRONG Resurgence 2024: A good back and forth match with a good story to it. Shota jumps Moxley before he even gets in the ring and we start off hot. Shota wants to prove himself to Moxley and takes the fight right to him! Doesn't take long for Moxley to fight back just as hard as these two go at it. A very even match for the most part with Shota trying everything to match his mentor. Shota works the knee, tries to be brutal and get violent and even hits a big elbow off the top through a table! All the while, Moxley takes the blows and dishes his own powerful blows right back at young Shota. I do like the visual of Shota using lessons from Moxley and even past opponents like Ospreay to try and get the win but Shota is still not equipped to beat Moxley here tonight. Lots of nice near-falls before Moxley hits one final Death Rider to put down Shota. A little too back and forth and "you do a move, i do a move" at times but a great showing by Shota all the same while Moxley stays on top. ****

Best of the Super Junior 31 Block A Match: El Desperado vs. Kosei Fujita at NJPW Best of the Super Junior 31 Night 2: A really good pure pro wrestling match. We get some nice early mat exchanges with a nice heated edge to everything like both men locking in knee bars and rolling to the floor with the holds still on and almost getting counted out. Both men pick limbs and nicely work them over: Fujita targeting the arm and Desperado targeting the knee. Fantastic spot with Desperado locking in Numero Dos but Fujita is able to counter out into a Zack Sabre Jr. style submission! Fujita ties up Desperado's limbs to try and keep him from the ropes but Desperado just makes it to the ropes. Fujita is fully in control now and gets some nice near-falls before a forearm by Desperado drops Fujita hard! Pinche Loco countered into another submission by Fujita but Desperado rolls into Numero Dos. Fujita tries to fight to the ropes as the crowd cheers him on. Desperado fully locks Numero Dos in and Fujita has to tap. What a match! Big coming out match for Fujita, who looked incredible here against the veteran Desperado. ****

Queen of the Ring 2024 Quarter Final Match: IYO SKY vs. Shayna Baszler at WWE Raw 5/13/24: A really nice and hard hitting women's match. Baszler jumps IYO as she makes her way to the ring and tosses her around ringside for a nice bit of heat right from the start. Story of the match is Baszler working IYO's arm and trying to wrestle her while IYO tries to use her speed and quickness to match Baszler's intensity. Some really nice back and forth action from both. Baszler gets her leg tangled in the ropes, hurting her knee and allowing IYO to take over on her. We get an excellent finishing stretch with a bunch of counters and near-falls until IYO counters a knee by Baszler into a Dragon Screw. Meteora in the corner by IYO and an Over The Moonsault gets her win. Baszler was the aggressor all match with IYO fighting to stay in it, only for IYO to find a chip in the armor to give her an opening to win. Really fun match. ****

AEW Continental Championship Match: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Dax Harwood at AEW Dynamite 5/15/24: A really good back and forth wrestling match between these two. Some good opening exchanges early on before Dax starts lighting up Okada with some stiff chops and strikes. Nice storytelling with Okada trying to grab a hold and wrestle Dax and not wanting to exchange strikes with him. Okada is able to hit a Draping DDT on the floor to soften up Dax's neck and we get a nice count-out tease as well. Dax fires up and the two get into a really nice back and forth exchange with some nice near-falls. Dax is able to keep blocking the Rainmaker and even counters into a Sharpshooter but Okada makes it to the ropes. Okada grabs the title belt to use it on Dax but the referee takes it away and Okada kicks the rope into Dax's groin coming into the ring. That's the opening Okada needs to hit the Rainmaker and retain. A good match with Okada constantly trying to keep the match under his control and keep Dax from firing up too much before having to go low to get the chance to hit his best shot and win. ****

Giulia and Utami Hayashishita vs. Sareee and Bozilla at Marigold Fields Forever: A really good and exciting back and forth match. We get some nice opening exchanges with everyone getting a chance to shine. Giulia and Utami try to use their speed to take control early before Bozilla comes in and puts a stop to that. Love seeing Sareee and Bozilla make the match more a fight to get the heat before taking turns working over Utami for a bit. Giulia gets the hot tag and we get an excellent exchange with Sareee before the match breaks down into everyone getting involved. Bozilla is amazing at being the monster that's so big and powerful that even teaming up together, Giulia and Utami struggle to get her off her feet. Some really great double team offense and near-falls. Finally, Bozilla is able to cut off Giulia's momentum with a big Pounce and Sareee dumps her on her head with Uranages. Top rope Moonsault by Bozilla on Giulia! One final Uranage ends things with Sareee and Bozilla getting the win in a rather long but really good tag match. ****

Triple Threat Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship: Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable vs. Bronson Reed at WWE King and Queen of the Ring 2024: A really good 3-way match. Everyone in the match plays their roles well with Sami being the fiery babyface, Gable the heel looking to pick apart his opponents with submissions and Reed being a monster all match. Some really nice back and forth sequences with everyone staying involved for most of the match and getting some good near-falls in. Otis gets involved and takes out Reed but hesitates to attack Sami. Gable slaps Otis and forces him to hit Sami but Sami ducks and Gable is hit instead! Sami takes the opening to hit Reed with a Helluva Kick and retains. Really good action-filled match that kept everything moving before slowing things down for the storyline finish. ****

AEW International Championship Match: Roderick Strong (c) vs. Will Ospreay at AEW Double or Nothing 2024: A really great back and forth match. Things start off hot with Ospreay going right for Strong's head with a Hidden Blade before the bell and here we go! Ospreay is moving fast before The Kingdom gets involved and drops Ospreay on his head with a Doomsday Device! Jesus! Strong is all over Ospreay from there and starts picking apart his neck, back and knees. Some nice selling by Ospreay as he fights to mount a comeback before The Kingdom and Wardlow get involved again only to be ejected. From there, the match is all great back and forth action from these two and some amazing counters and sequences. Ospreay hits an Oscutter and Strong looks to have hurt his neck. Callis calls for the Storm Driver but Ospreay can't do it and Strong takes advantage of the hesitation. Angle Slam and a Sick Kick only gets a 2 count. Strong goes for End of Heartache but Ospreay lands on his feet and nails a Hidden Blade! Storm Breaker is enough to get the win. The interference early on was unneeded but once it came down to these two going at it, this was a great match with an incredible finish. ****1/4

AEW Women's World Championship Match: Toni Storm (c) vs. Serena Deeb at AEW Double or Nothing 2024: A well done bruiser vs. technical wrestler match. Story of the match is Toni having the size and power advantage and using it to throw Deeb around while Deeb looks to pick apart Toni and work toward submissions. We get some really nice back and forth sequences before Deeb is able to lock in a Half Crab. Mariah May almost throws in the towel to save Toni but Luther stops her, only for Toni to make it to the ropes and sees Luther with the towel. Story progression. Toni fires up on Deeb and hits Storm Zero for a nice near-fall but gets caught in the ropes for a trio of Dragon Screws. Deeb nails a pair of Deebtoxs but still only gets 2! Deeb goes high risk and Toni catches her and nails a Storm Zero off the top! One final Storm Zero gets the win! I liked the slower pace to this match that built to both women going for bigger and bigger bombs until Toni finally hits a crazy top rope Storm Zero to finish off her challenger. ****

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship Eliminator Match: Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita at AEW Double or Nothing 2024: A really good storytelling match. Moxley comes in with a hurt shoulder, thanks to Takeshita's attack the night before, but still comes out swinging only for Takeshita to go right to the shoulder. Some nice heat and working the limb all match by Takeshita all while Moxley sells nicely. Moxley plays the "never say die" babyface and constantly works for any opening to try and fight back. Even with all of Moxley's attempts to fight back, Takeshita keeps shutting him down with his powerful strikes and targeted offense on the arm.  Nice touch with Takeshita even using Moxley's Death Rider on him before another one puts Moxley on his last leg. Callis tells Takeshita to finish it and Takeshia grabs some chairs. Referee clears one out and Moxley takes the opening to curb stomp Takeshita into another chair! Death Rider by Moxley and Moxley survives! Takeshita looked dominant all match and worked over Moxley perfectly, only for Callis' coaching to cost him and Moxley to pull off a fluke win. ****

Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match for the AEW TNT Championship: Adam Copeland (c) vs. Malakai Black at AEW Double or Nothing 2024: A wild, chaotic and bloody fight! The match starts and both men waste no time going right at it. Doesn't take long for weapons to come into play with chairs, bats, tables and lots of barbed wire used and both men getting busted open. Some really nice weapons spots to sell the rivalry and violence between the two. Copeland with an insane elbow off the top of the cage through a table! Black kicks Copeland through the cage door to the floor. House of Black shows up and looks to side with Copeland but NO! They attack him and look to finish off Copeland. Gangrel appears and takes out the House of Black! Copeland ties up Black in barbed wire and chokes him out with the Grindhouse. A little slow at times but a wild and fun match near the end. ****

AEW TBS Championship Match: Willow Nightingale (c) vs. Mercedes Mone at AEW Double or Nothing 2024: An excellent bell to bell wrestling match! Right from the bell the story is clear with Willow having the clear size and power advantage while Mone is the faster heel who looks to pick apart Willow and work her over. Some fantastic exchanges early on with both women working a more heated style and looking less smooth and more like a struggle. Mone tries to work the legs of Willow to take away her power and get her down to the mat for some submissions but Willow doesn't go down easy and is still able to throw Mone around the ring. Great spot with Willow hitting a shin breaker on the apron to go after the previously broken ankle of Mone to try and slow her down and work her over. Love seeing Willow get vicious here to defend her title. Willow hits the Babe With The Powerbomb but Statlander and Hathaway inadvertently distract the referee and Mone kicks out! Mone counters a second one into a STF variation for a nice near-fall, Mone goes to the top and Willow tries to follow, only to get shoved off. Mone is able to flip over Willow and hits the Mone Maker to get the win! The finish felt a little flat and sudden but the rest of this match was so good with some incredible back and forth wrestling from both women. Willow stepped up and proved to be a fighting champion but Mone was the better woman here. ****1/4

Anarchy in the Arena: The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada and Jack Perry vs. Bryan Danielson, FTR and Darby Allin at AEW Double or Nothing 2024: This was an insane fight! All 8 men start off fighting around ringside into the crowd and around the arena. It is chaos from the jump! Darby tries to drown Perry in a tub of water before Perry tries to hit Darby with a bus! Dax is already busted open as the Bucks and FTR go at it. Danielson gets hit with a TK Driver on the stage! Okada with an elbow through a table while Nick hits a Swanton! Perry returns and tries to attack Tony Khan! DARBY LIGHTS PERRY ON FIRE! HOLY FUCK! Darby tries to fight off the Bucks and Okada but the numbers are too much. FTR tries to make the save but Matt hits Dax with an exploding chair and superkicks Cash! Okada puts on a thumbtack sleeve and murders Darby with a Rainmaker! They hang Darby up by his feet from the roof! Superkicks with thumbtack shoes to Darby's face! MY GOD!  Danielson comes in and tries to fight off everyone, even taking one of the Bucks' thumbtack shoes to attack them. Busaiku Knee with a chair but Okada breaks up the count. The numbers game is too much. Rainmaker to Danielson and an EVP Trigger before Perry hits a running knee to get the win. What a match! Awesome energy all match as the crowd was going nuts for everything! Wild spots and some amazing visuals before the heels get the win by literally tying up one of the babyfaces and using the numbers advantage to get the win. Wild as fuck match! ****1/2

Forbidden Door Casino Gauntlet Match at AEW Dynamite 5/29/24: A phenomenal and exciting match!  Jay White and PAC start off and we get some nice action playing off their feud. Mistico is next! Some great lucha action from the CMLL star. Will Ospreay! Ospreay and White go at it for a few and we get some good exchanges from everyone. Shota Umino is next! Umino and Ospreay reignite their feud and have an incredible sequence of counters. Claudio Castagnoli is next and clears house and runs wild. Giant Swings for everyone! Lio Rush is out next and pulls off some wild quick offense. Orange Cassidy out next followed by Hechicero. Hechicero with some crazy wrestling holds and counters as everyone goes at it. Juice Robinson pushes PAC off the top to save White. Ospreay counters Blade Runner into Storm Breaker! Ospreay and Cassidy go at it and Ospreay hits the Oscutter and gets the win! What a match! A wild roller coaster as everyone gets a big reaction as they come out and got a chance to shine. Super fun match! ****1/4

Tomohiro Ishii vs. Masa Kitamiya at Pro Wrestling NOAH Star Navigation 2024-One Night Dream 2: A hard hitting and stiff Hoss battle from these two. Ishii plays the veteran here and the mountain that Kitamiya needs to conquer. Kitamiya throws everything he has at Ishii to try and chip away at the powerhouse.  Some great strike exchanges, big back and forth powers and lots of no selling. Kitamiya tries to go after Ishii's knees again here and there to try for a submission win but the match keeps going back to a straight up fight. Kitamiya starts throwing headbutts to rock Ishii and busts himself open. Ishii tries for a Brainbuster but Kitamiya counters out and hits a pair of Spears for a nice near-falls. Ishii is finally able to lay out Kitamiya with a Sliding Lariat and a Brainbuster to get the win. All action from these two big men. ****
