Top Matches I Watched in September 2025
By Alex Kalil

Another month has come and gone and wrestling is still great with AEW continuing you to deliver week after week and All Out being an excellent show. WWE yet again having some great women's matches. NJPW's G1 being a fun watch (yes, I am WAY behind on it). Even Stardom having some great stuff and CMLL giving me my favorite Lucha match maybe ever!
Adam Page, Kenny Omega and Jet Speed vs. Kyle Fletcher, Josh Alexander and The Young Bucks at AEW Dynamite 9/3: An exciting and action-filled 8 man tag. We get the standard opening few minutes with lots of quick tags from both teams so that everyone gets a chance to shine. Heels try to isolate early but the babyfaces are able to quickly rally to stay in the match. Tide of the match finally turns when the Bucks hit Jet Speed with a pair of TK Drivers including one to Bailey on the floor! Heels go to work on Bailey for the heat, but Bailey does a great job of staying alive. Hot tag to Omega, who comes in and runs wild! We get a great moment with Omega and Page going at it with the Bucks to play off their past. Incredible finishing stretch as everyone pulls out all the stops and hits big offense on each other. Knight is picked off by the heels with the Bucks and Alexander hitting him with a TK Driver before Fletcher hits a Brainbuster to get the win. Just an awesome match! Lots of storylines and angles mixed into the match while also being a fast paced match full of big spots and nice near-falls. Excellent match for TV. ****1/4
IWGP Women’s Championship Match: Syuri (c) vs. Sareee at Stardom The Conversion 2025: A really good, hard hitting back and forth fight from these two. We get a slow start with both women working for holds with some nice mat wrestling before Syuri starts firing off some heavy strikes. I really enjoyed the aspect of Sareee fighting from underneath all match and working with a very frantic and desperate style to her offense. Sareee tries to chip away at the leg and knee of Syrui to neutralize some of her striking power but Syuri is quick to grab a hold to cut off Sareee's momentum and take back control of the match. As the match goes on, both women start going for bigger and bigger offense with some great near-falls where the opponent is just barely able to get their shoulder up. Awesome spot with Syuri lifting Sareee for Syuri World, only for Sareee to panic and just start bombarding Syuri with headbutts to block it. Amazing desperate offense from the challenger. Sareee drops Syuri on her head with a trio of uranages but Syuri is still able to kick out. Syuri tries to rally one last time but Sareee cuts her off and nails a wrist-clutch uranage to get the win! A little long at times and the selling of the leg by Syuri could have been much better but this was still a damn good match. ****
G1 Climax 2025 Block B Match: El Phantasmo vs. Zack Sabre Jr. at NJPW G1 Climax 35 Night 6: A really great back and forth match that told a great story as well. From the opening bell, Sabre looks to ground ELP to the mat and work him over with hold and submissions. ELP does a great job fighting back time after time though and tries to prove that he can hang with Sabre, who treats him like a bother rather than a worthy opponent. ELP is able to start gaining m-omentum by using his high flying offense and big bombs to put Sabre on the defensive. This only serves to frustrate Sabre, who starts getting more and more aggressive with his offense as he works the neck of ELP and tries to shut him down. ELP does a great job staying in the match and even uses some of Sabe's own trademark offense against him for some nice near-falls. Sabre finally has enough and slaps the shit out of ELP! Zack Driver for a near-fall before Sabre ties up ELP like a pretzel and taps him out. Damn good match! Sabre being the cocky champion that took ELP lightly only for ELP to almost catch him multiple times was a great story for the match. Some really good action as Sabre got more and more aggressive until he finally snapped and stopped toying with ELP to put him away. ****1/4
G1 Climax 2025 Block B Match: Shingo Takagi vs. Konosuke Takeshita at NJPW G1 Climax 35 Night 6: A big hard hitting Hoss fight from these two. Bell rings and these two go right at it with big strikes, elbows and lariats. Both men start throwing big bombs as well as they look for the quick win early. Some great stuff as the match goes on with both men using the other's offense like Shingo hitting a Bastard Driver and Takeshita using a Made in Japan for nice near-falls. Takeshita finally changes tactics when brute force won't do and nails Shingo with a vicious elbow to the back of the head before a neck snap and locks in incredible back and forth, hard hitting action. Finish was very well done with all the punishment and big bombs not being enough so Takeshita has to choke the life out of Shingo to finally keep him down ****
Jon Moxley vs. Daniel Garcia at AEW Collision 9/6: A really good story-driven match. Garcia comes in trying to finally beat Moxley and wants to go right after Moxley from the start. Doesn't take Moxley long to start firing back at Garcia but Garcia goes after the knee to put Moxley on defense for a bit. A distraction by Marina Shafir allows Moxley to cut off Garcia and get some heat for a bit. Garcia is able to mount a comeback and starts firing back and we get a hell of a back and forth from these two with Garcia looking to out-wrestle Moxley while Moxley looks to bomb Garcia into defeat. Garcia gets in the Dragon Tamer for a really nice near win but Moxley makes it to the ropes. Garcia tries to roll up Moxley after a missed Lariat but Moxley reverses it and gets the win. A really good match with Garcia showing great fire and looking like he could beat Moxley on this night but Moxley was just barely able to steal a win out from under him. ****
G1 Climax 2025 Block B Match: Shingo Takagi vs. Shota Umino at NJPW G1 Climax 35 Night 8: A good hard hitting match from these two. We get a rather standard start with both men feeling each other out. Shingo starts to out-power Shota and hammer him with his big powerful offense. Feeling the match slip away, Shota smartly goes after the knee of Shingo to try and chip away at his speed and power as we get some really good limb work by Shota and great selling by Shingo. Match becomes a very back and forth fight as these two just beat the hell out of the other trying to keep them down with Shingo doing a nice job working from underneath due to his hurt knee. Shingo fights his way to finally hitting The Last of the Dragon but is too hurt to cover right away. Shingo follows up by nailing Shota with a Pumping Bomber before a Burning Dragon puts him away. Really good match. I enjoyed Shota trying to chip away and work over Shingo to put them on even footing so he could bomb Shingo into defeat but Shingo was just too strong to put away. ****
G1 Climax 2025 Block B Match: Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Konosuke Takeshita at NJPW G1 Climax 35 Night 8: An excellent wrestler vs. powerhouse match! We get some great mat wrestling to start where we can see that Sabre is quicker and more skilled of the two but Takeshita has the strength advantage. Sabre goes to work on the arm of Takeshita to try and negate his strikes and power, which Takeshita sells nicley. Tide of the match turns when Takeshita is able to drop Sabre with a German Suplex followed by a Brainbuster on the floor! Now the match becomes a battle of who can outlast the other: can Sabre break down Takeshita enough to submit him or is Takeshita going to bomb Sabre into the dirt. We get some incredible back and forth of strikes, big offense and even some super close roll-ups from both men. Takeshita looks for Raging Fire but Sabre slips behind and gets Takeshita in a rear naked choke. Takeshita fights like crazy to escape, even going to the top and dropping Sabre and himself to the mat but Sabre will not let go. Sabre is able to use his legs to trap Takeshita's arms and it is over: Takeshita is forced to tap. What a match. Sabre had a plan to chip away at Takeshita but underestimated just how powerful Takeshita was even with a damaged arm. Some excellent back and forth action until Sabre was able to lock in a choke and refused to let go until he got Takeshita to tap. ****1/4
NXT Championship Match: Oba Femi (c) vs. Je'Von Evans at NXT Heatwave 2025: A really good David vs. Goliath style match. Evans starts off quick and tries to stick and move to counter the size and power of Oba. Great storytelling spot with Evans catching Oba with a superkick to knock the big man down and Oba looks stunned that Evans can indeed knock him off his feet. Oba stops messing around and starts manhandling Evans with some big offense and even starts targeting the injured ribs for some decent heat. Evans is able to rally and starts firing back by using his quickness again as we get a nice back and forth with some good near-falls. Referee gets taken out during the action by accident just as Evans hits a pop-up Cutter. A springboard Cutter from the top and Evans covers as a second referee enters the ring. 1.. 2.. Oba gets his foot under the rope as the referee counts 3! Wait! The first referee sees the foot and the pin is waved off. Evans tries to get right back on Oba, only to be chucked from the ring and crashes onto the announce table! Good Lord! Oba brings Evans back in the ring and hits Fall From Grace to get the win. Great stuff by both men. Loved Oba leaning into being a heel of the match as Evans played the fiery babyface. Crowd was super behind Evans and his big near-falls down the stretch. The ref bump and phantom 3 count made things a little more complicated than it needed to be but it all worked out here. ****
Tables 'N' Tacks Match: MJF vs. Mark Briscoe at AEW All Out 2025: A wild and violent plunder match! Bell sounds and MJF immediately tries to run away and avoid Mark, who takes his time covering the mat with tacks! What a visual that is! Mark goes after MJF on the outside trying to get him in the ring, but MJF cuts him off with a low blow. Great build to the first tack spot with MJF slamming Mark into the tacks and then pressing his face into them! Jesus! Mark is bleeding already! MJF takes his time punishing Mark with more and more slams into the tacks before Mark is able to fire up and fight back. Mark starts slamming MJF into the tacks and putting him through tables at ringside to just beat the hell out of him! Mark breaks out a chair covered in tacks but MJF stops him and uses it himself before a Tombstone! Kickout by Mark! MJF gets a table and covers it in more tacks and tries to end Mark but Mark fights him off and nails a standing Froggy Bow through the table! A second Froggy Bow and a Jay Driller gives Mark the win! I loved this! The violence played a great part with Mark wanting revenge and MJF trying to run away in fear every time Mark was in control. Some brutal spots from both men that really sold the hatred the two have. ****1/2
Three Way Match for the AEW Unified Championship: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mascara Dorada at AEW All Out 2025: A really great story and action filled 3 way. Okada and Takeshita want to go right after each other at the bell but Dorada gets involved and refuses to be ignored or taken lightly as he uses his speed and agility to take out both men early. Match does an excellent job of keeping all 3 men involved in a lot of the action and each having a role to play with Okada the cocky heel champion, Dorada the fiery high flyer and Takeshita the powerhouse. Tons of great back and forth action even getting our first taste of Okada vs. Takeshita with Takeshita seemingly having Okada's number and forces Okada to take some cheap shots. Dorada does a great job staying in this and taking advantage of the two bigger men going after each other even hitting a double hurricanrana off the top to both men! Dorada starts rolling but runs into a Raging Fire by Takeshita, only for Okada to break up the pin and take out Takeshita. Rainmaker to Dorada and Okada just barely steals the win. Great match that made Dorada look like a star while we get the slow build to Okada vs. Takeshita. ****
Coffin Match: Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin at AEW All Out 2025: An insane and bloody fight from these two! Darby jumps Moxley in the crowd as he makes his entrance and we are off! Darby fights like a wild man as he throws himself at Moxley just trying to hit him more. Darby goes after Moxley's ear with a fork, like Moxley did to Darby in their last match, to bust him open. Moxley counters a dive by Darby into a cutter to take over as he just starts tossing Darby around and dropping him on the coffins. Darby isn't done though as he uses the fork again to bloody Moxley more and even uses a pipe to block the lid from closing on him before choking Moxley with it. Super creative offense from Darby to counter the size and power advantage of Moxley. Danielson hands Darby a plastic bag and Darby chokes the life out of Moxley before kicking his fucking head in with Danielson Stomps! Darby has this match won until PAC returns and attacks! Powerbomb from the ring to the outside onto a coffin! Jesus! PAC returns Darby to the ring, puts him in a body bag and in the coffin, which Moxley kicks close to get the win. What a match! The violence was insane as both men were willing to go to extreme lengths to punish the other. Loved the callbacks like the fork to the ear and Darby using a plastic bag to choke the life out of Moxley until yet again, the Death Riders are the difference maker. Best Coffin Match Ever! ****1/2
Four Way Ladder Match for the AEW World Tag Team Championship: Brodido (c) vs. The Young Bucks vs. JetSpeed vs. Josh Alexander and Hechicero at AEW All Out 2025: A wild, car crash style match. We get some nice early back and forth from all the teams before the ladders and tables come into play. Tons of wild action and big spots with some decent storytelling mixed in like the Bucks trying to work with Hechicero and Alexander, only for the partnership to quickly fall apart, and Brody being a monster all match. Great usage of the ladders all match before guys start getting taken out like Brody hitting Bailey with a Rikishi Driver though a ladder and the heels literally lifting a ladder with Knight on it and dumping him through a pair of tables on the floor! The Bucks try to climb up but Brody stops them and sets up Bandido to nail a moonsault while holding a ladder to the floor on top of the heels! Brodido climbs up to retain in a hell of a match! A wild match that really did a great job showcasing the new teams in the tag division while the Bucks continue to be incredible. Maybe a bit long but a great "turn your brain off and watch" match ****1/4
AEW World Championship Match: Adam Page (c) vs. Kyle Fletcher at AEW All Out 2025: An incredible back and forth match! Page comes in with a hurt neck and Fletcher knows it so he goes after it right away. Great storytelling early with Page being the hard hitting veteran that Fletcher has to chip away at by going to the neck and arm to try and soften up Page's best weapons in his arsenal. Lots of head based offense from Fletcher like a hanging DDT, Michinoku Driver and even a Boston Crab with Fletcher's knee right on Page's neck. Page is able to start mounting a comeback, even as he favors his neck. Lots of big bombs by Page as he starts to go after Fletcher's own neck including a Tombstone on the floor! Fletcher cuts off Page's momentum with a Brainbuster through the timekeeper's table for a nasty spot! Fletcher goes to the well once too often when he tries for another Brainbuster off the apron but Page reverses into a Dead Eye off the apron through a table! These two men are trying to kill each other! Page goes for the Buckshot Lariat but Fletcher collapses to avoid it. Awesome spot! Both men start pulling off all the stops by using offense from past rivals: Page using the V-Trigger and going for the One-Winged Angel while Fletcher hits a Hidden Blade and tries for the Stormbreaker, only for Page to counter and hit Big Pressure for a big near-fall. Awesome sequence! Dead Eye and a Brainbuster fail to get each man the win so Fletcher tries for the Turnbuckle Brainbuster but Page blocks and hits an Avalanche Dead Eye! Holy Fuck! Buckshot Lariat and Page retains! What a match! Fletcher yet again impresses as he comes in with a game plan to win and executed it to near perfection but the Hangman was just too tough to be put away and he fought back time and time again to retain. ****1/2
Title vs. Mask Match for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship: MJF (c) vs. Mistico at CMLL 92nd Anniversary Show: An absolutely incredible and drama-filled match! Mistico makes his big entrance, only to be immediately attacked by MJF, who starts tearing at his mask. MJF runs Mistico into the ring post on the outside and Mistico is pouring blood! MJF takes his time getting the heat on Mistico and enjoys every second of punishment he dishes out while Mistico valiantly fights from underneath. Every Mistico hope spot is quickly shut down by MJF while Mistico loses more and more blood and the crowd feverious cheer on their hero. This is pro wrestling at its best! Love MJF taking little shortcuts like a poke to the eye or using his second Jon Cruz to attack Mistico on the outside. Mistico starts rolling with a comeback and hits some big dives, but in a brilliant moment, struggles to find the strength to get back in the ring due to the blood loss and barely beats the count. So good! Match picks up as both men start looking for the bigger and bigger bombs like a Destroyer from Mistico and a Package Piledriver on the apron by MJF for a super close count-out again. We get a great spot of MJF trying for the Salt of the Earth only for Mistico to get a crucifix pin for a near-fall. Mistico tries for La Mística and MJF swings him right into a Tombstone for another near-fall. MJF tries to use the Dynamite Diamond Ring but Mistico is finally able to beat MJF at his own game and nails a low blow! Top rope hurricanrana by Mistico and he hits La Mística! MJF tries to reach the ropes but Mistico rolls back to the center of the ring and MJF taps! What a match! Simple pro wrestling done to perfection by two of the best! Heel bloodies and batters the babyface until the babyface makes the big comeback to win in front of his home country. Sometimes the simplest things are the best. ****1/2
Women's World Championship Match: IYO SKY vs. Stephanie Vaquer at WWE Wrestlepalooza: A really well done and even back and forth match from these two. Things kick off with both women trying to out-wrestle the other with some basic mat wrestling. The match very naturally flows into both women going for bigger and bigger offense but in a nice touch, neither woman is seemingly able to keep control over the other for long. IYO tries to use her speed and agility to take Vaquer out of her comfort zone but Vaquer is able to match IYO and keep pace with her. One nice story element is Vaquer going for the Devil's Kiss multiple times but IYO has it scouted and is able to counter to take back control. IYO starts looking for the Over the Moonsaul but Vaquer is able to block it and nail a vicious looking Dragon Screw to try and take out IYO's leg. Some great selling by IYO, who sells the leg while still trying to fight back on it. We get some big offense and near-falls like Vaquer hitting the SVB and IYO nailing a top rope Spanish Fly. IYO finally goes for broke and delivers a pair of Bullet Train knees in the corner, the second one with her knees exposed. IYO goes for the Over the Moonsault again but Vaquer rolls out the way and IYO hits her knee hard. Vaquer takes the opening and nails the Stardust Press to get the win! Really good match. Loved both women having the other so well scouted that we got a very even match. IYO went to the well once too often, which hurt her own knee, and left herself open for Vaquer to take advantage and get the big win. ****1/4
G1 Climax 2025 Block B Match: Shingo Takagi vs. Zack Sabre Jr. at NJPW G1 Climax 35 Night 12: A really excellent back and forth match. Shingo comes in with a hurt arm and tries to work a more technical wrestling match in the early goings. Naturally, Sabre is quick to out-wrestle Shingo and start working on his knees to take away the bigger man's base. I enjoyed Shingo still trying to do some mat wrestling and only using his powerful strikes and bombs to cut off Sabre's momentum. However, Shingo starts utilizing his hurt arm and leaves himself open for Sabre to start going after it with submissions. Great back and forth as Shingo tries to push himself through the pain to put away Sabre, while Sabre just keeps waiting for his spot to tie Shingo up and submit him. Sabre dishes out his own bombs with a Zack Driver, only for Shingo to fire back with his own and a Burning Dragon but the damage to his arm and knees is too much and Shingo can't get the cover right away. Finish comes when Shingo is finally able to hammer Sabre enough to lift him up and hit The Last of the Dragon! Shingo covers but Sabre is able to roll through into his own pin to just barely get the 3 count! Some great action with Shingo trying to change up his strategy to protect his body, only for Sabre to force him to fight back with big bombs and strikes. Sabre masterfully picked apart Shingo bit by bit and took some punishment of his own but was able to score the quick counter to get the pin with Shingo kicking out as so as the referee counted the 3. So close! ****1/4
